Book Study
A book study to inform and provide teachers with a background for working with English Learners with empathy and understanding
This is an outline for a book study for my current school staff. This book study is a result of the needs of the building as determined from a whole staff meeting. Teachers expressed a desire for more information on the social-emotional components of working with English Learners in the school setting. The school is experiencing an increase in the English Language Learners over the past five years to the extent that 20% of the population of the building are identified as English Learners. The EL team chose the book and I created this slide deck as an outline. Many of the resources come from the book itself or from the website for the book. Additional resources come from websites/videos/etc. that support the ideas and methods shared in the book. The questions will be used in discussion threads on Canvas to facilitate conversations around topics and events covered in the book, or turned into assignments for self-reflection to be completed individually by the staff members participating in the course. Once this outline is completed, then the EL team will review what I created, offer editing advice, and critique. Once it meets team approval , then I create the course in canvas, inputting all of the pieces from the outline, add in dates, assessments, etc. Before the course is published, building administrators must see and approve the final product.
